Use case

Job applications

A polished, professional-looking email alias for your CV and recruiter follow-ups — that you can quietly retire once you're settled in the new role.

Best for

Anyone job hunting who'd rather not put `partygirl1992@` on a CV.

The workflow

How it runs end to end

  1. 01 Create a clean alias on a custom domain or a generic Incognifi address
  2. 02 Use it on your CV, LinkedIn, and recruiter forms
  3. 03 All recruiter follow-ups arrive in your real inbox
  4. 04 Once you've taken the role, pause or retire the alias
  5. 05 Recruiters who got hold of your details don't have a permanent line in

Two small problems with the email on your CV

The first is that the address you set up at university is almost certainly not the one you want a hiring manager evaluating. The second is more practical: once your CV has been on a job board, your email is in the wild. Six months into a new job, you’re still getting cold pitches from recruiters about roles you have no intention of taking.

A job-search alias solves both. You put a clean, professional-looking address on the CV. Once you’re settled, you switch it off — and the recruiters who collected it gracefully drop out of your life.

What “professional” looks like

For maximum polish, run the alias on a custom domain — firstname@yourname.co.uk or firstname@yourname.dev is a stronger signal than any free-mail address, and it costs about as much as a coffee a month. If a custom domain feels excessive, an Incognifi alias on the shared domain is still a step up from a Gmail address from your school days.

Either way, it’s separate from your everyday address — recruiters who got it during the job search don’t have a line into the inbox you actually live in.

The graceful retirement step

When you accept a role, you don’t need to delete the alias straight away — let it run for a few weeks while loose ends settle, then pause it. Anything urgent will arrive in time; the rest gets a polite dead-end. If you ever job-search again, you create a fresh alias for that round.

A nice side effect: by the time you’re job-hunting again in three or four years, the recruiters who hassled you last time aren’t the ones starting the conversation.
